Ok, so I've totally dropped the ball and haven't taken pictures of how I'm changing yet... I promise, we'll do that soon! The reason I haven't though is because I went through a period of being very self conscious of how I was growing. People felt it was appropriate to comment that it looked like I was eating a lot rather than looking pregnant (note: this is never the appropriate thing to say to a woman and it can cause meltdowns in Target... no fun). For someone who has weighed more than I should have in the past, all those self conscious feelings came rushing back. But, on the bright side, I'm starting to round out a little bit and feeling more confident to rock the baby bump. More about that in a second.
Today is officially the beginning of week 20... meaning that by this time next week, I'll be half way done baking up this baby, we'll know if it's a boy or a girl (hopefully!), and we'll have some amazing 2d and 3d pictures, and hopefully another video :).
Some info about the baby:
Size: A mango!! (not the yellow kind... the redish ones)
Weight: 8.5 oz
Length: 6 inches
Big milestone: Baby is starting to be able to hear things
How I'm doing:
- Weight: +7 pounds. It seems like a big jump from the last time I updated, but I think my body is catching up from the first trimester. According to everything I've read, by this point I should be between +7 and +11, so I'm right on target. I'm not going to worry about my weight unless my doctor says something, but I think I'm fine.
- Cravings: To be honest... none really and definitely nothing weird. I'm letting myself be more flexible about what I eat than I was before I got pregnant, but I've definitely welcomed vegetables back into my life and am trying really hard to limit my "bad" foods (chocolate, sugar, etc) to one per day. I'm not very good at that (particularly with this huge bag of M&Ms in the house), but my exercise makes up for it hopefully. I'm also cooking again... and even better, actually WANTING to cook and find new recipes to try.
- Exercise: I'm still not able to exercise at the intensity that I was pre pregnancy, but I'm finally feeling like I can get a decent workout on the exercise bike. This week has been particularly good and I'm shooting to exercise at least 5x per week. After a brief hiatus from yoga for a couple of weeks (thanks to my job), I went back this week and felt amazing afterward.
- Sleep: I was having a horrible time sleeping for awhile there... mostly because I woke up 3-4x per night and couldn't feel rested. JC and I bought a king size bed, memory foam mattress, I got a body pillow, and have since been only waking up once per night... I've never been more thankful for sleep in my life. The bed is so comfortable that I actually look forward to going to sleep each night :)
- Clothes: I'm officially rocking my jeans completely unzipped and it's awesome ;)... the belly band keeps them from slipping down and I'm hoping to be able to use my regular jeans as long as possible (and only buy one pair of maternity pants for when I get bigger rather than a couple to accommodate me now). I did get some maternity shirts though and I love them. Based on what I wrote at the beginning of the blog (about being uncomfortable with how big I was getting), I felt uncomfortable shopping for new clothes. I finally did though, and thanks to Old Navy and Target, I've come to appreciate maternity shirts. They're longer (so they hide my unzipped jeans easily) and they show off the baby-ness of my body really well, so I feel really confident wearing t-shirts again.
- Am I showing? The answer is still "yes and no"! Someone told me today that she completely forgot I was pregnant because I still looked normal (she made my week!). I think that because I'm taller, the baby has room to grow up into my body rather than out... I certainly am more round though and I'm finally embracing it... I love touching my belly where the baby is :)
- How I'm feeling otherwise: All in all, I feel really great. Sometimes I forget that I'm pregnant and then look at myself in the mirror and wonder where that stomach came from because I'm feeling so much better. Obviously things are different than pre pregnancy (I do have to take it easier, keep close tabs on how hungry or tired I get, etc), but my energy is SO much better now and I'm soooo happy about that.
- Other interesting info: I'm officially feeling the baby move! I've been suspecting that the movements I've been feeling have been the baby for a couple of weeks now, but this week I can tell for sure that this is it. Today in particular, the baby was throwing a party in there... I felt it all day. This is for sure my favorite part of the whole thing because I really just love having the baby tell me it's in there. I still don't feel hard kicks or anything, but I feel like I'm being poked from inside. Today I also felt like I might be able to feel when the baby was rolling over because it felt like waves in there.
We don't have any updates on the nursery because we're waiting to find out the sex of the baby... but the guest room/my office/exercise room is done and I love it. Now we just have to clear out extra stuff we put in the baby room and focus on that.
I will for sure do another update next week after the ultrasound and post the pictures and video (if we get one) :)
Lauren
